Thieves steal keys and cars from car park Manchester

Comment from Mark Hinge, chairman of the Independent Airport Parking Association (IAPA)...

News that thieves have stolen more than 130 keys and taken four cars at Car Park Manchester, an off-site airport parking facility close to Manchester Airport, is another reminder that anyone booking airport parking must take steps to ensure they are choosing a secure facility with suitable insurance cover.

More than a million cars are parked in off-site airport parking facilities every year with only a handful of customers encountering problems.

For peace of mind airport parking, our advice to travellers is to only book with companies who display clear information and pictures of their car parking facility and have the Park Mark police award to show that they have security measures such as CCTV, fencing, 24 hour manning and barriers in place. Booking with an IAPA member is the easiest way to guarantee all of these features.

In the case of Car Park Manchester, the operator took the decision not to inform customers' that their keys had been stolen so as not ruin the enjoyment of their holiday. Our advice to parking companies would be to contact customers about any serious incidents, so that they have the opportunity to make alternative arrangements.
