Secure Airparks Adds New Electric Bays

February 21, 2019

IAPA member Secure Airparks has installed 10 electric car charging bays at its secure parking facility at Edinburgh Airport, becoming one of the first airport parking providers in the UK to offer a high number of bookable charging points.

Bays can be pre-booked at www.secureairparks.com, and there is no cost for the electric used with customers simply paying for the parking space.

The facility uses a standard type 2 connection at 3.5 kw so cars are fully charged in a day.

Each bay is located at the entrance of Secure Airparks at Edinburgh airport, so customers can easily park and put their car on charge. Once the car is fully powered the system switches off automatically, so the car only takes the power it needs.

Shaun Cann, manager at Secure Airparks says: “Our research shows that the number of electric and hybrid cars parking at Edinburgh Airport is above the national average, so we wanted to cater to their needs.

“Since launching the new spaces, the feedback we have had has been very positive and we have already had electric-car owners switching their booking to us because their previous service didn’t have the charging option.

“One new customer who flies regularly for business used to pay £40 to park his car in a multi-storey for the day, without a charging option. He now uses our electric parking and pays £10 for the day and his car is fully charged for his return.”

Secure Airparks has provided parking at Edinburgh Airport for more than 30 years, helping customers save up to 50% on airport parking fees. They have almost 1400 parking spaces in a purpose built car park at Edinburgh Airport, with day-and-night bus transfers taking customers to the airport in just one minute.

The facility has full CCTV monitoring and the Parkmark Award for secure parking.
